The telegraph is the pre-curser of today’s technology.
From 1850 to the 1960s the telegraph kept the logistics
of train operations by sending coded messages that made
it possible to keep track of the train positions on the railroad line.
Thus the telegraph made railroad travel safer and more efficient.
It was a vital link between “Main Street” and “Wall Street."
Anyone wishing to send a personal message would go
to the Railroad Agent and ask him to send a telegram.

G3 is happy to announce that through an anonymous gift, $3,000.00
has been raised to purchase two 1860 replica telegraphs which will be installed in two separate locations within the Glassboro West Jersey Train Station.

The station's museum docents will be able to demonstrate
to the public and visiting school children a hands-on method,
showing how the system worked. Back in 19th and 20th centuries
the telegraph connected Glassboro with the rest of the world.
